Foreword
Before we begin our InstaGuide to Vietnam street food, let's start with a cruise down Hoi An's river.


Step 1: Forget the Guidebooks
Do not be fooled by English menus in pretty restaurants, the best food in Vietnam is found on the streets. Follow your instincts: your eyes, your nose, your palate. Look for the little red plastic stools in Hanoi's old quarter, they almost always lead to fantastic discoveries and perhaps the best street food in the world.

Step 2: Use Your Nose
Find someone grilling or steaming away and decide what smells best. This thit nuong at the gates of Hoi An's old town hits the spot. Do-it-yourself juicy grilled pork skewers wrapped in rice paper with a mountain of herbs.

Step 3: Eat
In Hoi An, leave the main streets of the old town and head to the Tan An market. We found a lady sizzling up one of our favorite finds, bánh cãn. Popular in the southern region, these particular rice flour fritters have quail eggs dropped into the batter and are topped with a young papaya salad, herbs, pork sausage, and the mandatory nuoc cham sauce. Add a touch of chili and devour.

Step 4: Eat More
One of Vietnam's most famous culinary exports is pho, but have you tried a mi quang? Much loved in the central southern region, these noodles are chewier with only a ladle of strong broth added. It can be rich with pork, chicken, and shrimp, but the best part is the crispy cracker that comes with all the toppings. The best one we found was on the outskirts of Hoi An, so grab a bicycle and explore.

Step 5: Sleep It Off
After all the food hunting and cycling, there is only one thing left to do before repeating the whole process for dinner. Follow this hardworking vendor (in Hanoi's Dong Xuan market) and take an afternoon siesta.

Step 6: Develop a Bánh Addiction
These little steamer rice cakes, bánh beo, are named after their water fern shape. They hail from Hue, but the best ones were made by Hao, a lovely lady in Hoàng Van Thu road in Hoi An's old town. Go for the delicate cakes topped with dried shrimps scallions and mung bean paste. She's there daily, from 2-5 p.m.

Step 7: Fathom It

Recognize the Fathom logo under these beautiful steamed dumplings? Bánh bao vac, also known as white rose, is a specialty of Hoi An. Supposedly named by the French for their flower petal resemblance, they are translucent, chewy, and stuffed with shrimp

Step 8: Soak It All In
Not only does it taste better on the street, the setting is often unbeatable. Roam the back alleys of Hanoi's old quarter till you spot some gorgeous lamps. Then sit down to grilled pork ribs, roasted quail, and bun (rice vermicelliStep 9: Sweet EndingThe list of food is neverending, but to top it all off make sure you get a sweet, luscious coconut coffee. Head to Cong Caphé on the corner of Nhá Chung in Hanoi's Hoan Kiem district and watch life go by as you sip slowly and sweetly.

You can find various kinds of flowers in this small town that makes it more colorful and lovely. Paper flower (Bougainvillea) seems to be the most common plant in Hoi An, and together with the yellow houses helps decorating every ancient street as a wonderful picture.

On the 1st and 14th of every lunar month, Hoi An becomes the colorful city of lanterns. Hoi An also has extremely popular streets trading lanterns at night. Most of tourists come to Hoi An also have had several photographs with lanterns.

Hanoi – 36 old quarter streets is one of the most popular destinations. Although the chess- board designed, perpendicular parallel streets each other like a maze, but it are not easy to find way out. Go along streets you can see shops selling the most random things, and other unique characteristics that make this area so lovable. This is really exciting experience for any visitor arriving here. If you feel tired, find a cafe located on the balcony of an old house to observe the bustling streets.

6.      Watch the sunset in West lake

Located in the northwest of Hanoi, West Lake is a pretty tourist destination. Many people often find there to enjoy the special large and peaceful space. Especially in the afternoon, West Lake becomes illusory in orange horizon. Visitors can stop to take impressive pictures.

7.      Travelling around  Hanoi by bus

Besides the tuk – tuk and cyclo, travelers should try go by bus. Not only bus-ticket is cheap but also there is scenery – rich routes, you can pass through the most famous tourist attractions in Hanoi. With two recognized colors are red and yellow, this highlights Hanoi’s picture. Travelling by bus in Hanoi is a truly local experience.

8.      Join in Flag lowering ceremony

If you cannot get up early to see raise the flag ceremony, you can join the flag lowering ceremony at the mausoleum at 9pm. Every day, many domestic and foreign tourists, even Hanoians wait till this moment. All activities at Ba Dinh Square have to be stopped when the loudspeaker announced start preparing the flag lowering ceremony. The National flag will be lowered by a troop of 34 soldiers marched in the same time the national music raise up. This ceremony is so solemn, everyone wait and follow the slowly lowered flag.

9.      Walking on Long Bien bridge

As old quarter, Long Bien Bridge is like a historical living eyewitness. This bridge has a very interesting history – it was designed by Gustave Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower fame) and built by Dayde & Pille of Paris during the French occupation of Indochina. Many parts of the bridge were destroyed during the Vietnam War and some of that damage can still be seen today.  Restoration efforts have been ongoing for many years, but the bridge has remained in use almost the entire time for small vehicles and pedestrians.

The lifestyle is unique and completely different from what you see in the center of Hanoi or even elsewhere in Vietnam.  The best time to visit the bridge is just before sunset and then stay for sunset before heading back.  That way, you get to see some of the surroundings in daylight and then get some beautiful pictures of the sunset over the Red River.  It is a breathtaking sight in more ways than one, and a perfect way to round out your Hanoi experience.

10. Night trip in Hanoi

In the morning, Hanoi is crowded and bustling but at night city is completely opposite picture. Colorful souvenir shops and commercial centers at day are silent and quite quiet at night. Besides, tourist can go along streets and some corners which are still busy to enjoy another space..
