The Anawrahta set to cruise the Ayeyarwady and Chindwin Rivers in Myanmar starting September 2015. With one crew member per passenger, the Anawrahta enjoys the highest crew-to-passenger ratio and largest cabin floor space on the Ayeyarwady. 
The luxury river cruiser “Anawrahta”, owned by Heritage Line, left Ho Chi Minh City aboard the heavy lift vessel, Rolldock Storm, bound for a 5-day journey to Myanmar where it will ply the Ayeyarwady and Chindwin Rivers beginning mid-September 2015. “Myanmar is a very hot destination with a lot of potential because it’s practically untouched by the commercial world,” said Maarten Perdok, Managing Director of Heritage Line Co., Ltd., of the country that has been named “Destination of the Year” by Travel + Leisure magazine. “The Ayeyarwady is a stunning river to cruise and explore. In fact, river cruising is one of the best ways to discover a country and its culture. You get to see the country from a different angle and go to places other tourists don't because there are simply no roads going to those places. This is especially true in Myanmar where infrastructure is lacking, making cruising one of the best, if not the best way to travel the country.”

 Built entirely in Vietnam over 14 months, the 23-cabin luxury vessel has an aluminum superstructure on top of a steel hull. “Because of the low water levels in Myanmar, we used a lot of lightweight materials for this cruiser which are typically not used,” said Technical Director Stefan Malin. “We took advantage of the experience we had from building two other ships, bringing together the right contractors and the right materials to build a very high-quality vessel.” “We wanted to reach a low draft of just one meter, so that we could stay ahead of the competition and cruise further out, and stay longer in areas with very low water levels,” added Perdok. “We can go to remote places on the Ayeyarwady where no one else can go, offering guests a very unique experience all year round. I’m happy to say that we succeeded in reaching this very low draft.” The Anawrahta will sail on four different itineraries ranging from 4 to 11 nights, visiting ports including Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Homalin. The longest itinerary is the 901-mile, 12 day / 11 night journey from Mandalay to Homalin on the Chidwin River and ending in Bagan on the Ayeyarwady River, with excursions to textile and silversmithing workshops, temples and convents and teak forests with working elephants, amongst others. Located in the Lao Cai province of Vietnam, the North Western town of Sapa has become very popular with tourists in recent years. This is largely due to its cool, pleasant climate and picturesque scenery which is unique to this part of the world. The US-based travel website www.touropia.com has revealed the list of 29 best places to visit in Southeast Asia, including Hoi An, Hanoi, and Ha Long Bay of Vietnam.

The capital city blends the charm of the old world with a pace of life that is quickening as this old city modernizes. Touropia suggested that travellers should not miss to visit Old Quarter, an open-air museum of historic  Asian and French colonial architecture that has largely remained intact.

Also known as Fai-Fo, Hoi An ancient town boasts a well-preserved Southeast Asian trading port, which it once was until the river silted up. The narrow, winding lanes of the old port are lined with beautiful old architecture, traditional wooden houses and hundreds of tailor shops selling everything from clothing to souvenirs, Touropia noted.

Markets in Ha Giang always attract tourists because they are not just places for buying and selling, they are also meeting places for local ethnic minority people. 
Wearing colorful costumes, all the different ethnic minority groups of the region come to the market to meet their friends, or their ex-lovers. 

 Early in the morning, Meo Vac district of Ha Giang province is blanketed with fog. All the roads to the markets are noisy with people calling one another as they make their way to the market, which meets only on Sunday.  Local people in Meo Vac district are of the Nung, Dao, Mong, and Giay ethnicities. The market is both a trading center and a socializing center for local people. Many different goods are on sale in the market.
 People come to the market to sell their farm produce and home-made products and buy clothing, plastic slippers, sandals, sport shoes and mobile phones. 

Here they also meet their friends and eat their favorite food. Phan Thi Mui from the Red Dao group said, “I don’t have much money so I can only buy a few items. I brought rice to the market and can sell it for 1 million dong. I also go to the market to meet my friends”. 
 Visitors to Meo Vac market are impressed by the wine section, where local women stand in a long line selling corn wine. There’s an aluminum soup ladle by each can of wine which customers can use to taste the wine. Italian tourist Malcro Cusani shared, “We have bought some dishes which can’t be found in Italy. 
We love to see the costumes of the local ethnic minority people. We have found some souvenirs for our parents”. People go to Khau Vai market just to meet their ex-lovers. 

For more than 100 years, Khau Vai market has been known as a Love Market. Legends tell that an ethnic Giay girl from Ha Giang fell in love with a Nung boy from Cao Bang but their love was forbidden by both families. They separated from each other and made an appointment to meet again on the 27th day of the third lunar month.  
The mountain where they dated has become a market place. The market meets once a year serving as a festival where people come to meet their ex-lovers. Tho Mi Tha of Can Chu Phin commune, Meo Vac district said he waited for the Khau Vai Market festival all year to meet his ex-lover. “I never miss a market festival. My marriage was arranged by my parents. But I have an ex-girlfriend. She is 5 years younger than me. It’s difficult to explain but I always wait for that day and will not return without meeting her. 
The festival is held on March 27 but the night of the 26th is a memorable day in my life,” he added. When they meet, the former lovers recalls their love stories although they might be married and have children now. They don’t return home until midnight. Tha noted, “I live 10 km from the market. I come here by motorbike at 6 PM. We meet each other in the market. She is married already. We discuss the sad and happy events in our life during the past year. I wish I could have married her”. 
The Khau Vai love market is also a place for boys and girls to seek partners. Many couples have been married after meeting at a love market session.
