Almost every place of natural beauty in Viet Nam has a stream called the Fairy Stream, which seems to offer the best views of nature.

In Mui Ne (in the central Binh Thuan Province) too, there's a small stream in the middle of the sunny sand dunes of Rom Island, which is called the Fairy Stream. Unfortunately, this stream used to be forgotten in the tours organised to visit Mui Ne. Even tourists who had visited Mui Ne several times did not know about the existence of this unique stream.

"At dawn, a pure mist lingers on tiny wild yellow flowers, when violet hyacinth stems are hesitating to bloom. With birds chirping overhead, I saw the showy plumage of a kingfisher and wondered whether he was lost in the fairyland," Daniel Coyle, a 32-year-old American tourist, said.

Indeed, unlike other streams in the country, the Fairy Stream has a red-orange colour due to its sand.

It may be called a stream, but it is actually a small water fissure next to Rom Island, hidden behind a sand hill. Not many people know about it. To find it, you have to come to Huynh Thuc Khang Street (in Mui Ne Ward, Phan Thiet City) and then ask the way to the stream.

The Fairy Stream does not have a strong flow, but has a gentle drift, with a depth that does not reach above your knees. Therefore, tourists often take off their shoes, and walk barefoot in the stream's bed that has an orange glitter, to feel the cool water under the intense sun. The underwater powdery white sand, coupled with the gentle and cool lapping water, gives a unique feeling in the ‘desert' landscape.

Admiring ‘ancient temples'
After the first 300m, the scene is like a fairyland. There are sand pillars created by the water – masterpieces of Mother Nature – that have strange forms or huge reliefs, which change with the flow. Thus, even if you have visited the Fairy Stream before, every future visit will still feel like it is the first.

After wading through the glittering orange stream for a few hundred metres, many people will be stunned to see a natural masterpiece shaped by blocks of sand on the banks of the stream. It looks like an ancient Roman temple or a gigantic mushroom, with tall columns of sand standing in silence to welcome visitors from afar. Visitors feel as if they are discovering temples and palaces forgotten for centuries.

The sand here is very unique, looking sometimes white and sometimes yellow, and then turning red with the water flow. More tourists come to the stream at sunrise.

"You will be amazed when you see interesting sand shapes as you move further. I discovered that the water flows into the cliffs and erodes sand blocks to create strange shapes that constantly change," Jennifer Howard, an Australian tourist, said.
You can climb up the sand dunes to enjoy the view of the magnificent sand castle from above, against the background of the orange-coloured land and green coconut trees. Rain and wind erode the sand to create various shapes that look like sparkling castles. Visitors take hundreds of photos from all angles without being bored. Children carry shovels and plastic buckets to build sand castles in the middle of the stream's bed, as the sand here is as soft as the beach sand in Mui Ne.
Sand cliff

The white clouds seem to expand the blue sky and cool the intense sunlight as we stroll along the cool stream on bare feet. A large number of visitors from the US, Australia, South Korea and Japan, as well as China enjoy exploring this beautiful and dreamy stream.

Near the end of the stream is a large garden with green trees where visitors can enjoy the sweet coconut milk of Mui Ne, while swinging in hammocks to admire the birds or enjoying a fish foot massage. Deep inside a passage that is about 1.5m or 1.8m long are coconut trees bending across the stream, creating a spectacular view. At the end of the stream, there is a small waterfall. You can also exit from the way you entered, but that place looks rather unfamiliar.

Blessed by Mother Nature, the Fairy Stream attracts visitors throughout the year. They can immerse themselves in the pure unspoiled beauty as people's footprints are swept away by the flow. While it takes only about an hour to explore the stream, many visitors spend their whole day here. After wading through the stream and admiring the view, you can visit the farm near the stream to enjoy ostrich rides.

With the Fairy Stream, Phan Thiet seems like a brand new destination that intrigues both foreign and local visitors

Nearly 500 Vietnamese, Laotian and Cambodian government officials, business executives and tourism experts will take part in an international workshop in Phan Thiet city this week.
Participants will analyse and evaluate the possibility and potential of linking tourism products offered along Viet Nam's central coastal, south-eastern, and Central Highlands regions with those in the southern Laos and north-western Cambodia.
The workshop on September 11-12 will also seek initiatives, opinions and measures for promoting such linkages.
It will serve as a forum for business exchanges and networking for local and foreign organisations, investors, tourism companies, officials in tourism ministries and other agencies, and city and provincial leaders.
An exhibition titled "Three countries-One destination" featuring documentary films, photos and printed publications will be held at the Sealinks Beach Hotel on September 11.

After the workshop, an investment promotion conference will be held to attract investors to Binh Thuan Province, home to Phan Thiet.

The workshop will be organised by the Binh Thuan Province People's Committee, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Coordination Board of the Central Coastal Region.
Tourists may cannot help surprising climbing up to the sand hills then see a silvery lake sparkling under the radiant sunshine and flickering pink lotus flowers behind green leaves create a natural poetic landscape.
bau trang
Located about 65km off Phan Thiet to the North-east, Bau Trang belongs to Hong Lam hamlet, Hoa Thang commune, Bac Binh district. There are two ways to come to Bau Trang. You can go by jeep along the road from Hon Rom (Thatch Islet) to Mui Ne, across the Mui Ne market and Doi Hong and continue head to the sea. It takes about 1 hour to go from Mui Ne to Bau Trang this way. Another choice for you is to go along highway 1A from Phan Thiet to Luong Son, turn right at the three-ways crossroads then go for more 18km across the bare hill, go up and down, across the forest of “so do” trees and green coconut forest on poetic white sand hills and you will be there.

Bau Trang has formed long time ago as one large lake. Afterwards, they make a sand dam across the lake as a path. The large lake had been devided into 2 parts: small lake and big lake.

Since “Bau” means “lake” in the dialect here, for a long time, local people has called the small lake Bau Ong (Man Lake) and the big lake Bau Ba (Woman Lake). Bau Ba is larger than Bau Ong and contain more water. Bau Ba is 70ha in area, the widest area is 500m long, the average deep is 5m and the deepest place can reach 19m in rainy season. The closer to the land, the less deep the lake is.

For lying among white sand dunes, Bau Ba is called Bau Trang [which means “white lake”] as well. Nowadays, it’s also named Bau Sen [which means “lotus lake”] as lotus flowers cover the surface of the lake in its blooming season. The biota in Bau Sen is really rich with many types of freshwater fish such as anabas, snakehead, catfish, carp…

white sand dune

Surrounded by white sand dunes, the lake is more beautiful in the sunlight and blasts of wind endowed by nature. Looking down from the sand hill, you will be impressed by the mirrorlike surface of the lake flickering with pink lotus flowers and the dark color sand dunes far in the distance.

Bau Trang is wild and pristine. However, the nature itself with white sand dunes and the murmurs of sea magically attract who love the beauty to come here finding inspiration for artistic creation.

Coming to Bau Trang, visitors can hire a boat from fishermen to go for a interesting fishing trip full of discovery and enjoyment. The fresh and cool all year round water of Bau Trang abates the hot temperature of immense sand dunes and make the natural scene here so poetic that anyone come here want to take a stop over.

If we want to have an overview of the Island clearly, we have to stand from river marina. Cua Lo river’s main branch originates from western branch, and flows through Huong Van, Phan Thanh. After distributing water to Le dynasty cannal, the river crosses Thien Ly road being National Highway N0 1A in Cau Cam now, and then runs between Dau Voi and Cam mountains. Flowing near to the sea, it meets Dung mountain, and then Lang Kho one locating at the Northern bank. So, it bends itself to the South and then flow to the sea. Proverb says that: the landscape consisting of mountain and river is very interesting. There are not only river and mountain, but bluish green sea.
